The Hawaii Film Critics Society cast its votes and nominated an eclectic group of films for their first ever year’s end list. Art house hits like “Room”,” “The Hateful Eight” and “Mr. Holmes” were honored, as well as mainstream blockbusters like “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and “Mission: Impossible- Rogue Nation.”
“Carol” led the charge, with ten nominations, while “Mad Max: Fury Road” and “Love & Mercy” were tied for nine nominations each. A few dark horses emerged, like Daisy Ridley’s performance in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and the costume designs of “Jupiter Ascending.” In the category for Best Hawaii Film, two offbeat nominations arose: the animated short film, “Pa’a Ke Aupuni” and the controversial summer comedy, “Aloha.”
The Hawaii-based critics group, which was founded in February 2015, will vote on the nominees selected and publish a list of winners on January 12th, 2016.
